Well summer has finally arrived and it is time to enjoy the outdoors and get that wonderful summer tan. While it is great to spend more time outside it is important to take of your body and your skin.
One of the most basic things you can do for your health during the summer is to stay well hydrated. This means drinking lots of water and keeping yourself cool. Always try and stay out of the sun in the middle of the day. This is when the sun is at its strongest and is when you can burn very quickly.
It is recommended that you drink at least 8 glasses of water each day during the summer if not more. If you are going to be outside all day on the beach or by the lake then try to drink more.
You can also eat foods that contain lots of water such as watermelon. This is a delicious and healthy snack that will help keep your hydrated. You want to stay away from eating lots of sweet or fatty foods when outside in the heat. These types of foods make you feel tired and sleepy and do nothing for your health.
When it comes to skin care the sun can do a ton of damage. Yes sun tanned skin makes you feel good but it can lead to skin cancer. As well too much skin is the leading cause of early wrinkles.
To combat this you want to use a good sun lotion with a high SPF factor. Just remember that while the numbers may be high, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you can stay out in the sun 60 times longer. Instead what this means is that you will be protected 60 times more. There is a huge difference here. If you listen to your morning weather forecast they will tell you have quickly you will burn. If they say 10 minutes then a sun cream with an SPF of 60 you will be protected for 600 minutes. This is only if you don’t perspire or go swimming. If you do then your protection time is drastically reduced.
Wearing a large brimmed sun hat will help protect you face, neck and shoulders. This will help reduce the chances of you developing face wrinkles too early.
It is possible to enjoy summer fun out in the sun if you take a few precautions. Dress in light long sleeved clothes when not in the water. Use a high SPF on your skin lotion and drink lots of water. By doing all of these things you will be keeping not only your skin healthy you are reducing your chances of contacting any type of skin cancer as well.
