When you are young, breast growth begins and ends when the hormones in your body decide that the time is right. After your breasts have stopped growing, they will generally stay the same size for the rest of your life. There is often some change when a woman gains a lot of weight or loses a lot of weight, but most women keep the same bra size throughout their entire adulthood. Unless, of course, they go through pregnancy. Pregnancy can change a woman’s body in a number of different ways, and many women find breast growth to be the only good thing that occurs during the 9 months that it takes to gestate a baby.
Why Do Breasts Grow During Pregnancy?
Breast growth during pregnancy is extremely common, and just like many of the other symptoms in pregnancy, some women will experience breast growth while others will not. But why is it that breasts grow? During pregnancy, a woman’s body is making much higher levels of estrogen and progesterone than normally. These hormones are necessary in order to have a viable and successful pregnancy. It is the estrogen and progesterone combination that causes your breasts to grow and it is also what allows women to breastfeed after their baby is born.
Bigger Breasts and Soreness
Women who have small breasts are often ecstatic over the breast growth that can occur during pregnancy. A woman who had an A or B cup could suddenly have a C or D cup in a matter of months. The changes that a woman goes through in her breasts are all signs that the body is preparing to provide milk for the new baby. Unfortunately with the good also comes the bad. Many women find that their breasts are unbearably sore and can’t wait for the pregnancy to be over in order to stop the pain. There are some ways to make the soreness better. For instance, make sure that your breasts are no longer your spouse’s play toy. Explain that your breasts are sore and ask that they be left alone for the duration of your pregnancy. Some women choose to wear maternity bras one their breasts get large and are sore, as they have much more support.
After the Pregnancy
A big problem often comes after the pregnancy, when a woman’s breasts eventually shrink back down to the size they were before the pregnancy began. Many women miss the larger breast size and look for alternative methods to get their breasts large again, such as through herbal breast enlargement pills or through breast augmentation surgery. Breast growth during a pregnancy can be a wonderful thing, for many different reasons, but before you choose to enlarge your breasts after the pregnancy through whatever means, make sure you fully understand the risks and results.
